At Citizen Printing, green is not just a color, it is a way of thinking, a way of doing business and a way of setting goals for the future.
Here are just a few of the Green Goals we have accomplished:
We run low to no VOC vegetable base inks and low to no VOC water based solvents and chemicals throughout the plant.
We work every day to lower our energy consumption through new and better equipment and practices. By updating equipment and changing our illumination to T-8 lighting, we have cut our electrical consumption by more than 50% in the past five years.
Through recycling, re-using and better planning, we have reduced our impact on landfills 80% in the past five years. Not only do we recycle all scrap paper, cardboard and other printed materials, we also have a “scratch pad” supply chain and “donation” stacks that are 100% unprocessed, post-consumer paper waste.
Citizen recycles over 195 tons of scrap paper and 15,000 pounds of aluminum plates annually.
We guide our customers toward recycled, certified ecologically manufactured & recycled papers, and non-forest papers made with alternative fibers such as hemp, bamboo, and coffee. We also introduced the region to a “seed embedded” recycled paper which can be planted.
We seek out collaboration with “like minded” companies and suppliers who have exhibited a commitment to improving their sustainability. These companies often join us in communicating to our customers and employees better practices for improving our environment. Our staff attends annual sustainability programs and vendor presentations to continually develop their knowledge of the very latest in recycled papers, supplies and equipment developed specifically to reduce environmental impact.
Our employees’ work areas are furnished with recycling receptacles for paper and aluminum, and we furnish re-useable dinnerware in our lunch room.
We have installed bicycle racks as well as a dry, heated area for bicycle parking to encourage emission-free commuting.
We have reduced the mileage traveled for our deliveries by over 50% in the past five years through better planning, the use of intermodal loads, back hauling, and electronic communications.
At Citizen Printing green is not just a color, it is our future.
